'Live! Tonight! Sold Out!!' Hits DVD

For anyone who regrets missing the chance to see Nirvana live (myself included), the classic concert film 'Live! Tonight! Sold Out!!' will finally see a DVD release on November 13. here. The film has been around since 1994, not long after Kurt's death, but has only been available on VHS and Laserdisc until now. It includes footage from the band's final U.K. performance in '92 at the world-famous Reading festival. Check out the band performing 'Lithium' at that show after the jump.

Watch the DVD in its entirety.

'Nevermind' turned 15 this week. Put it on, crank the volume and think about what could have been.

I saw em too on that tour at the Melody Ballroom in Portland Oregon. Had just moved to Portland form NYC... and went to that show with zero expectations. Walked in as a casual Dino Jr fan..and had never heard Nirvana. I will never forget it...they played ALice's Coopers greatest Hits before they went on--- Nirvana played an amazing 35 minutes of the loudest, most bratty melodic punk rock I had ever heard. They were stunning.....I have a lsting image of at least 50% of the audience LEAVING after Nirvana finsihed their set...I had NEVER seen that before...but this audience knew.....50% of em filing out flannell shirts tied around their waists...children of the (pre-grunge-ware) corn streaming out into the misty Portland night, ears ringing no doubt from About A Girl/Lithium etc..... BBG.

Nirvana, what can i say? I'll start here, the best band of all time and made such a huge mark on the world when they were only around for a short period of time. This the band that was bringing rock back and in a new and big way. Rap, hip hop ha! The most cd's sold of the most successful rapper would have been way under a million if (RIP) Kurt Kobain didn't kill him self. If Kurt Kobain didn't kill him self, today would be a very differnt day. For every one out there keep this amazing band alive. Sincerly one of Nirvana biggest fans from Long Island Billy.

nirvana is my favorite band in the world and unfortunately i have never seen them in concert. wish i could have. i got the dvd the day it came and out and i love it. no band can ever touch nirvana. they changed the face of music and its gonna take a very long time for another band to do so. i often wonder what music would have been like if kurt hadn't died.

RIP Kurt Cobain
much love to krist, dave, frances bean, ande courtney.
nirvana is the best.

Well what can we say about the single greatest modern rock act of all time? Many things: Cool. Very cool. But in a sort of sad way. Kurt was such a loser as a person (all of you who will hate me for saying it, you are in denial. You would not have been able to spend 1 day with the real Kurt Cobain from Aberdeen, WA), but had the talent of John Lennon with more solid rock and roll guitar moxy. Kurt was just such a naturally good guitar player. In fact, I am of the opinion that he would make many peoples top 10 guitar players of all time. Not on technical skill, but on breadth and depth of sound appeal alone. I’ve always felt that there has to be more than one guitarist playing with him in the studio. But, when Kurt and Kris played live, it sounded like more sound was being created than is possible from one guitar and a base, proving that he indeed had the talent to make his Mustang guitar sing. When they play Aneurysm live you are spellbound by the amplitude and magnitude of those guitar and base sounds ramping up and down as they do. The light and heavy of Led Zep. The melody of the Beatles. The road and life weary lyrics. The genius! Kurt was Nirvana. Nirvana was Kurt. He was a singular force emerging from a backwater logging town - Aberdeen, WA. Amazing! Aberdeen to Olympia to Seattle. Logging town to K records to the Underground scene where Kurt brought Green River’s Grunge to the world.

I wanted to add a comment about Kurt's voice. Its not scream rock, its not hair, its not college rock radio, its not anything you've ever heard. Its distinct like his music. Also, a great band can be measured by whether or not they are better live or in the studio. My opinion is that a band that sounds as good and especially better live is a mark of a great band. Nirvana sound like the studio when live, but better. Everything in the studio was there, but only more of it. Kurt made his songs sound fresher when played live. One more thing. The MTV Unplugged gig showed how Kurt really did have the musical chops to play it all and play it all well. Very well. That set was kinda contradictory as Kurt was contradictory. The Unplugged set had a sixties look and feel. The colors and the flowers. That wasn't the outward verbal Kurt, but his indulgence in the grunge look and letting his hair grow long was somewhat reminiscent of the 60's. If given the chance, Kurt would rip and put down the Peace, Love and Tranquility movement that was the 60's. But, he looked like one, dressed like one and dropped out like one. But, that was Kurt, at once comfortable with nothing and everything all at once. Fame he hated yet he sought rock star status unknowingly and feverishly. He appeared on the cover of all the "fanzines" as he called them. He stopped playing our favorite song (Smells) almost before it had a chance to peak. Anyway, his voice haunts me to this day over 12 years later. Its just seems like yesterday.

The first time I heard Nirvana I was hooked. I am around the same age as Kurt would have been. He grew up in the same era. I identified with that music he made. I bought the"Live" vhs, when it first came out. I discovered Love Buzz, and decided to buy "Bleach". Great music. I have very few bands that I like today. Of course, I did get to see the Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl has the energy it takes to make a great show. At least he is still playing.
