Video Premiere: The Hold Steady, 'Chips Ahoy'

The Hold Steady have been getting more press than Lindsay Lohan's latest crotch shot. If you're one of the three people who hasn't heard the buzz on this band, think Hüsker Dü-meets-early-Ben Folds, if he were really into the Doughboys.

We are proud to present an exclusive look at the 'Chips Ahoy' video.

It's like George Costanza singing indie party music by Springsteen--which may sound like one giant mess of an oxymoron, but somehow works like a charm.

Classic case. Pleasing the kids and executives to line everyones wallets. I am happy Lifter Puller never made it BIG. At Ieast I can still enjoy a healthy dose of soft rock.

wow, seeing these guys in person kind of weirds me out. pretty nasty looking. this song isn't very good compared to anything on their last lp, but i suppose if you can sell records by rehashing the same tired themes with less than interesting music, more power to ya.

Hey Steiny, the new record is actually much better than the last one (in my humble opinion.)Have you seen them live? They might just be doing big bar rock, but man, are they a lot of fun. I might be biased, but these guys rule. And Sublevelbus, it's not like this is gonna sell a million copies or anything, c'mon man, if they move 100,000 it will be a surprise. Not exactly sell-out material. Peace.

These guys are the best and only thing happening in rock. Although, whoever wrote the intro. didn't do too good with the references. These guys sound nothing like the Doughboys or Husker Du. How about Bruce meets Tom Waits meet T. Petty, meets big fucking guitars in the vein of Grand Funk and Cheap Trick.

What are you guys talking about? I thought the video was pretty good. I haven't heard the new album -- just a couple songs when I saw them at Lollapalooza -- but I'm sure if the past 2 albums are any indication, it will be a good one. And bollocks to anyone who says they are selling out. I hate it when people get pissed off when bands they like become popular (which The Hold Steady isn't quite yet). That's the whole damn point of being in a rock band. It's not like this song is some huge departure from their previous material. It's just catchier. How can you talk smack about a band that has a guy with a Rollie Fingers mustache? I say, kudos to The Hold Steady, and I can't wait to see them in a week in Chicago.
