Bright Eyes' Apocalyptic New Album

The devastation of the world's recent natural disasters will play a huge role in Conor Oberst's new album, which, as he revealed to Spin, will be a thematically dark work, focused on the impending end of the world. "There's a feeling in the world right now like everything is unravelling, but maybe that's not a bad thing. I'm not convinced that the human race is good for this planet anyway."

The album was written mostly in a stream-of-consciousness style, which can be confusing, but fortunately (unlike James Joyce), Oberst is skilled in ESP. "Telepathy is a big theme. If you just concentrate, you'll know what I'm talking about." Cool. Like that 'Jaws' sequel where Brody's wife is psychically connected to the shark.

Hungry sharks aside, for those of you who miss the romantic side of Bright Eyes, go ahead and revel in the bleeding heart sentiments of 'Bowl of Oranges' while you eagerly await the apocalypse.
