Emo is dead. Well, maybe not. But it certainly died in my mind when mall-punk become known as emo. Do you remember good emo? Sunny Day Real Estate, early Jimmy Eat World, Embrace and Texas Is the Reason.
Enter Stars of Track and Field, who admittedly took their name from a Belle & Sebastian song. The band recently landed a tour with emo pioneer Jeremy Enigk. I wouldn't say they are emo exactly, but there are elements in their music that make me reminisce about the mid-nineties D.I.Y. scene. The bass-less trio uses electronic elements to fill out their sound and to achieve a unique, emo-indie blend.
