Award Weekend Round-Up

Saturday was a busy night in New York. Lifetime played the Bowery Ballrom, !!! played Maxwell's and Lily Allen was at Hiro Ballroom. In addition to an overwhelming amount of choices, David Cross hosted the Plug Independent Music Awards at Irving Plaza. Some of the highlights of the show were huge David Cross puppets and barbershop quartets. Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Silversun Pickups, El-P, Deerhoof and Tokyo Police Club performed. EL-P's performance included a horn section. Silversun killed it, despite soundboard issues early in their short set.

And, of course, the Grammys. I feel like all I saw were the Dixie Chicks and Mary J. Yeah, the Police played 'Roxanne' and Gnarls dressed up like trippy pilots, but the highlight was when the Dixie Chicks admitted that Rick Rubin told them that they "lacked style" prior to working with him.
