'Do You Remember the First Time,' Pulp
From 1994's 'His 'n' Hers'
Not often does a composition embody so many satisfying themes at once. In the case of Pulp's oft-overlooked 'Do You Remember the First Time,' the band visits such subjects as sexual ambiguity, promiscuity and the loss of virginity. Jarvis Cocker's suggestive words ooze over his pursed lips in a tone that induces slinky dancing. When the chorus hits, however, the only movement fit for his shouts is Brit-hopping.
"It must be great to be straight," Cocker declares, and, given that he has a wife and child, befuddles the listener only temporarily. Of course I want to picture him suffocated by hordes of fanboys and girls alike, and I'm not going to question his lyrics. And, sure, the object of his affections can share his/her bed with someone else, as long as there's a bit of tastiness left over. Divine. If only everyone was into this kind of generosity.
Hear the song after the jump.

This song's the highlight of many a britpop dance night.
