Eddie Van Halen Checks Into Rehab
- Posted on Mar 8th 2007 6:42PM by Jessica Robertson

After much speculation, Eddie Van Halen will not be joining bandmates Sammy Hagar, David Lee Roth and Mike Anthony, during Van Halen's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next week as the guitarist is entering rehab. Van Halen's brother, Alex, has yet to confirm whether or not he will be attending the festivities.
This news comes shortly after Velvet Revolver announced they would be standing in for Van Halen -- who recently scrapped their summer reunion tour -- during the ceremony, with frontman Scott Weiland and guitarist Slash speaking on the inductees' behalf.
Read Eddie's letter after the jump.
I would like Van Halen fans to know how much I truly appreciate each and every one of you. Without you there is no Van Halen.
I have always and will always feel a responsibility to give you my best. At the moment I do not feel that I can give you my best. That's why I have decided to enter a rehabilitation facility to work on myself, so that in the future I can deliver the 110% that I feel I owe you and want to give you.
Some of the issues surrounding the 2007 Van Halen tour are within my ability to change and some are not. As far as my rehab is concerned, it is within my ability to change and change for the better. I want you to know that is exactly what I'm doing, so that I may continue to give you the very best I am capable of.
I look forward to seeing you in the future better than ever and I thank you with all my heart.
Love,
Ed

These brothers play the BEST rock-groove in the business. I didn't believe it until I saw a live arena show about 6 years ago...I had only heard the radio singles before that. Their "feel" for each other blew my mind...something that could ONLY happen with brothers. Long live VH!!!! Get better Eddie...sorry about Valerie...she just doesn't get it. She, like most women, think they can be men but they can't. They're just jealous.

For the "retard" comment, let's see Paul change the way people look at and play guitar. Let's see Paul become an amazing songwriter---what was that? He's just talking shit behind the safety of his computer screen? I say twenty lashes for these anonymous shit-stirrers, and the best of luck to Eddie Van Halen so he can deal with what he needs to handle, and I hope to see Van Halen live again!

You are very gifted and have given the world an opportunity to share that gift with you.. and for that i am greatful... I hope you the best in the years of recovery, it takes time, and many hurtles but you can do you...
Eddie, I've been where your are. It is easy to get bitter about old lead singers, get into bad habbits, but being an older man myself opportunities don't last forever and it's good to forgive and forget so you dont have regrets(people die). No matter how you feel about David Lee Roth, he was a big part of what made VH/ what it was. Sure he has a overbearing personality, costantly needing the whole spotlight all the time, but thats why you wanted him in the first place... But the people want him, michael, alex and eddie and that can get you the cover of forbes like KISS did and it doesnt have to be totaly perfect, nostalgia makes up alot for it. Ihope you get well and I'll pray for you and family. Recovery is hard but you can do it......

Chill, What Ed is doing is a very personal decesion. Live in his shoes,Thinking it's all glory, for a while. Anyone who bashes Ed is a musically uneducated moron. He didn't choose to be an addict. The pressure of the biz, his self commitment to entertain all you, and to try and out do him self all the time has worn him out. I have studdied Ed for years. He has worn himself out entertaining all of YOU. Have any of you tried ever tried to compete with that. GIVE HIM A BREAK. I think you look great Ed. See you soon Ed.

I have no respect for drunks and druggies, especially when they are talented. No matter how sweet and wonderful they are under their drunken stuper, it is hard for me to enjoy their music if I know what a mess they are personally. I had to deal with a drunk for several years until I divorced him. They are always sober when they take that first drink.
These famous talented messed up musicians set a horrible example for misguided kids who think its cool to be a sleeze bag because Van Halen (OR WHOEVER) is one.
I stopped listening to his music years ago because I know the hell this man has put those who care for him through. Probably Van Halen is a lush because whoever Van Halen looked up to as a kid was a lush. Hall of fame? "BE A DRUNK AND MAKE THE HALL OF FAME". What an insult to the few clean sober Hall of fame musicians
Walk a mile in his moccasins?? Keep the booze and drugs out of your life and you'll never have to. Rehab must be fun so many famous people go there constantly. What nothing lives they really lead.

Wow, Eddie lomn, oks worse than Keith Richards.Damn, its hard to believe he has let himself get rundown like this.Ahh well, we still have the Heydays....Looks like Diamond Dave has turned out better off without Van Halen, I know he's not as wealthy as he would like to be, but he seems healthy.

Time to get into the new century, partner. I know it's not quite as exciting, but you and I talked at some length one night in Baltimore (I used to be in the biz) and you are a very bright guy, so I'm sure you'll find that life is really much better straight than high. I don't want to preach, but you're not the only one to go through this and come out the other side, and it may help to not anticipate that its so difficult; it's really not. You'll be fine because you'll figure it out. From your comment, it sounds like you've already done that. Good luck, amigo. I invite you to communicate but understand if you don't.
One of the best ever,The weight of the world can do that to you.Straighten up and come back to us.We all miss you and love you!!!
