They Will Rock You: Rosie Thomas (No. 4)
- Posted on Mar 16th 2007 12:03AM by Spinner
The Deal: The folk-pop songstress is best known for her delicate ballads, which meld the modern indie elements of Ida and Low with classic singer-songwriter influences such as Joni Mitchell and Neil Young. The Seattle-based Thomas recently collaborated with pal Sufjan Stevens on her new album, called 'These Friends of Mine.' The folky yet wide-ranging tracks were recorded in Stevens' apartment, which afforded Thomas the leisure of recording at her own pace.
Fun Fact: When she's not being an earnest troubadour, she performs stand-up comedy as her nerdy alter ego Sheila Saputo.
Sounds Like: An indie-folk Joni Mitchell with a sense of humor

This was recorded in an apartment? Nice job! Amazing what talented people can do. I better get off my butt and give it a try. Very inspirational. Thanks.

Maybe Rosie Isnt THAT vindictive.
But a very sweet voice. This is one to watch out for.
She sounds like what's her name...and the other what's her name...and the other.....get the point? But I DO like the ballad. Well done.

March 17 2007 at 11:37 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySounds authentic ... except for the over-production techniques of the doubled/stacked BGV's and the cheezy keyboard-string pad thing. Too bad ... I wish she would have kep this organic and acoustic. I hate to see production junk getting in the way of a nice voice singing a great song like this. Hey, call me to produce your next record ... I'll get it right!
