Jason Coigne and Gabi New Hamshire (Mostly Jason Coigne),
Bob Marley is a legend you can't just say you hate all his songs I'm pretty sure that you haven't listened to all of them. I know people have their own preferences in music;but a whole genre? I don't care how old you are I'm 15 and I think his songs are still good. Plus I'm DEFINATELY sure that you haven't listened to the ENTIRE reggae genre to say that it sucks. So check yourself before you say something stupid like that again.

The point of this song, which I haven't seen mentioned in the comments yet, is that the sheriff is the one who shot the deputy. So basically, yeah, he shot the sheriff, but it was in self defense (he swears.)

Protip: The sheriff was an abusive racist white man who put Jamaicans down. Generally a crook. In Western convention, in lands that were colonized or occupied by foreign empires/nations, the sheriff was usually a white man, while the deputy was among the local population and served only as a figurehead. Lyric makes perfect sense.

Good God...it is just common sense not to hate on Bob. In fact, being negative about Bob Marley is pretty ironic. But such things will piss off a lot of...er...people belonging to a certain interest group. And there's a lot of us. Lisa...you're the worst kind of person.

You see the thing is he shot the sheriff the bullet bounced off his badge and hit the deputy.

So "I shot the sheriff But I didn't shoot no deputy" is indeed a true statement.

There you go a little CSI for ya.
