Read the whole lyric and you might have a small clue about this song. Hint: You might have to actually use more than two brain cells and put the song in context with who is singing it, and the environment it was written in.

Yeah but he is not the writer or original singer of this song.

He understands he's going to jail and that he is in trouble. That's why he;'s saying i shot the sheriff but he wasn't a deputy because it was a corrupt system in the first place and he shouldn't have been there. I can honestly picture you listening to this song and laughing because your that ignorant.

who made this list? A class of fourth graders?

This song is about a real incident. The sheriff was trying to arrest an innocent man for killing his deputy. He shot sheriff John Brown but he didn't kill the deputy

yeppers, this song ranks right up there with Reba's and Dylan's...

Bob rules, How about this genius line. Until the color of a mans skin is of no more significant than the color of his eyes. These lists blow!
stevenat 12-31-2008
I hated this line even when I thought it was a white guy singing it. just the way that it plays makes me angry. now I have it stuck in my head. don't get me wrong though. I do love Marley, but I hate this song

Wow, I love that song, but I love Eric Clapton's even more, even though it doesn't have that true reggae "feel" to it.

hey i guess we know who knows nothing about music:Lisa from Long Island!! Marley is a genius and this song is truly great if you listen to all the lyrics. Not to mention it spawned a great remake from one of the best guitarists of all time Eric Clapton. Nice job Lisa!

Bob Marley's music sucks so much
oliat 4-08-2007
I cried ... from laughter ... reading everyone's comments!
Lisa ... you crack me up!
and everyone else's explanations ... and objections ... very funny ...
but my favorite: "Until the color of a man's skin is of no more significant than the color of his eyes."
I hope i get to see that day ...

I'm really growing tired of the 20 ~ somethings trying to figure out old skool. Funny, we're living in a generation where the 40 plus are more hip than the young'ins. HA! Got ya! Listen to the song....mon.
Jason Coigneat 11-21-2008
I'm 39 and I can say Marley sucks...the entire genre of music sucks.

"I shot the sheriff" is a political song. Bob Marley tried to stay out of politics in Jamaica (stepped right into it most of the time though)". His music is spiritual. I am a Christian and it inspires me spiritually. Don't dis Bobby!
