Meat Loaf Drives People to Drive Faster
- Posted on Apr 18th 2007 7:00AM by David Sprague
The notion that the music of Meat Loaf would prompt people to drive a little bit -- okay, a lot -- faster than normal seems perfectly rational to us, particularly if one were putting the pedal to the metal to get out of earshot when the portly pepperpot goes for one of those high notes. Video game vendor Electronic Arts, however, found that even fans of the Loaf can't drive 55 when confronted with speakers pumping out a zesty version of 'Bat Out of Hell' -- the song that was determined most likely to hamper the judgment of drivers across the land.
The list of white line fever inducing tunes also includes such biggies as Guns N' Roses' 'Paradise City' and -- naturally enough -- Bruce Springsteen's 'Born to Run,' all of which rank high on our list of tunes that merit banning in the interest of public safety.
Then again, we've always thought that Jim Morrison should've been more widely castigated for advocating eating while driving in 'Roadhouse Blues' -- the whole "keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the veal" thing was absolutely shameless, even for a guy who nicknamed himself "The Burger King."

Meatloaf is the greatest singer of all time and all his songs have meaning to those of use who understand where meat and Jim Stinemmen put into the music.
