'Sound System,' Operation Ivy
From 1990's 'Energy'
Growing up is a bitch. It's that simple. Especially when you're 13 and trying to throw fists at the establishment (aka your parents, your teachers, your authorities). Through it all, though -- the daily trips to the Principal's office and the persistent yelling matches with my parents -- there was Operation Ivy. 'Sound System' was more than just a song for me. It became a sort of personal mantra.
So what if society was going to keep calling me a "freak" for wearing black lipstick, baggy jeans and Dr. Martens with pink laces? As long as I had Operation Ivy to remind me that "Sound system gonna bring me back up/One thing that I can depend on," I was ready to take on the world ... and throw an elbow or two while I was at it!

Too bad Op Ivy never got the same retroactive respect the way groups like Minor Threat, etc. did. Awesome song.
