'Someone Great,' LCD Soundsystem
From 2007's 'Sound of Silver'
I have always felt a connection with LCD Soundsytem. From the first time I dropped the needle on the 'Losing My Edge' 12'', I knew where James Murphy was coming from. Murphy was a kid who grew up on punk and found a love for dance music, only to later marry the two in a way that only Gang of Four had done. Fast forward six years when LCD drop their second major label LP, 'Sound of Silver,' and I am intrigued again by the progression of the song 'Someone Great.' Their mature freak out-worthy synth-driven beat brings Metro Area to mind, bested only by the honesty in Murphy's voice and lyrics -- his most sincere to date.
