Sheryl Crow Pisses Off One of God's People

It sucks to be Sheryl Crow right now. As if Karl Rove isn't tossing enough hate her way, God decided to throw a little of his own. OK, well, not God per se, but the Roman Catholic archbishop of St. Louis, Raymond Burke, who resigned his position as head of the Cardinal Glennon Children's Foundation after the charity's board of governors allowed Crow to be the featured performer for a benefit concert.

Burke called the singer "a high profile proponent of the destruction of innocent lives" and considers her appearance "an affront to the identity and mission of the medical center, dedicated as it is to the service of life and Christ's healing mission." Because, you know, you can't be Pro-God and Pro-Choice. Read the full story.

I can see where the archbishop is coming from. you wouldn't want someone who doesn't believe in the cause performing at your charity event. I'm sure the gay communtiy would be in an absolute uproar if someone allowed billy Grahm to come in and speak at a gay rights movement, and I'm sure they wouldn't want Al sharpton speaking at a KKK meeting either. So why should someone who is pro-choice perform at an event sponcered by a pro-life church. I say way to go Raymond Burke!

uh, really ?

Liberals have no brains? Really? I'm pretty sure the liberals aren't the ones that believe that the earth is 6,000 years old, or that a book written by MEN two thousand years ago should really be the guiding light by which we should live our lives. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the idea of religion, but those who take it too seriously, and don't simply see it as a outline or basic foundation by which to live your life, but rather as a way to put other people down because they feel bad about themselves, or were told since they were a young child that it was the right way, without coming to that belief on their own, are the scarecrows, not us.

Now that things have quieted down, let's face a few elementary facts:

1) Sheryl Crow is an AMERICAN. That gives her the "God-given right" that you Cathloics (of which I was born one) are screaming about to have the CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to do what she wants. PERIOD. Rock Star? Who cares. It's not the point. You don't like her, change the channel. Listen to mindless wordless inspirational Artists that you choose (I'm not even going there today). CHANGE THE STATION. HOWEVER,IF you ARE TRULY an AMERICAN, you don't have to agree with what she says but you should fight to the Death for her Right To Say It! There are so many intelligent and compassionate Musicians and Actors and Writers in the Arts. They have their audience. It's their RIGHT! Go put on Toby Keith and STFU!

2) To the IDIOT who suspects that "the many false claims were made in the name of the almighty dollar", well, you are just that. AN IDIOT. DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT TAKES AS A RAPE VICTIM TO COME FORWARD AND THEN BE ACCUSED OF BEING A LIAR OR BEING MONEY HUNGRY? The money is about hurting them WHERE IT HURTS. THERE IS NO OTHER JUSTICE. IT DOESN'T GET BACK YOUR INNOCENCE. YOUR SELF-ESTEEM. YOUR CHILDHOOD.
The documentation of Child Abuse in The Roman Catholic Church is staggering.THEY'RE NOT THE ONLY ONES, BELIEVE ME, BUT THEIR ABUSE OF POWER, WEALTH AND CONNECTIONS IS SECOND TO NONE! Their wealth and Lobbyists are saving their Hypocritical Asses on The Hill (Do you know where that is?)THAT'S RIGHT. Where and when is the legislation to enable the Victims of ALL Pedophiles going to come about?

3) The Woman is playing to HELP children. I don't think she supports Child Abuse, nor would she enable it. The Church? That's another story.
Anyone who supports the Church so blindly is as guilty as those letting these things go on and unpunished. The Pope is the Top Enabler and it's well documented.
Sheryl Crow is not the Issue here.
You lay a hand on a child, you should Reap The Whirlwind!

Although child abuse is serious and odious offense, that shouldn't preclude the clergy from taking a stand on an important moral issue. I also suspect the many false claims were made in the name of the almighty dollar.

I am not against abortion, but I do think that they're may other choices for woen who do become pregnant. I mean, if you're reason for abortion is the you got raped, well, consenting to the murder of an innocent life isn't going to erase the fact you got raped. If you say you're too young to have kids, that's a load of bullshit because apparently you weren't too young to have sex. As for judging the entire Catholic clergy on what some demoralized human beings have done is stupid, and so is judging the entire church for mistakes of the past. Not that things are perfect now. The church has no right to judge whether people are living up to God's standards because they know as much as we do. We are lucky that we live in a place where Crow and Burke can express their opinions, as much as someone may or may not agree with them.

I'm only 19, you may think thats too young to understand whats going on in this sort of debate, but I, just as Sheryl Crow, have the right to give my opinion. It's as simple as this:As Americans, we have the right to Freedom of Speech. Last time I checked, Crow is an American, and can be as Pro-Choice as she wants to be. She was singing at a charity concert, for children. What has the RCC done for children reccently, other than rape them? Also, I believe he called her a, what was it now, "a high profile proponent of the destruction of innocent lives"? I'm not sure the RCC has much room to talk about the taking innocent lives, seeing as during the Crusades they burned burned 3/4 of a MILLION women ALIVE at the stake, for being "witches". A women who was raped cannot have an abortion, but men who have to burn a small country's worth of women for trying to hold positons in the church, is perfectly fine. What a shining moment for the Roman Catholic Church.

"JUST SHUT UP AND SING ???? ": or you could always shut up and listen, or maybe even simply respect the fact that celebrities have a right to their opinions as well, just like you have the right to moronically object to that fact, that they dare express an opinion, especially one that you disagree with! Boo-hoo
