'Sick-O-Me,' Descendents
From 1996's 'Everything Sucks'
When the Descendents, my favorite coffee-punks, decide to reunite in 1996, I was beyond skeptical. In short, I didn't want them to mess with their legacy -- a catalog of poorly-recorded, raw pop-punk gems that served as the soundtrack to my high school years. I vividly remember the fall day when I picked up 'Everything Sucks.' I popped it into my car's CD player and I was blown away. They still had it.
By the time I got to track five, I was nearly deaf. I kept 'Sick-O-Me' on endless loop. Every element that had defined the Descendents' musically was embraced in this pop gem nearly a decade-and-a-half later. The production was raw, Milo's voice still bled the urgency of frustrated teen angst and the hook stuck in my head indefintely. Another decade passed, and I still go back to this song.
