OOooo. A better choice (though no where near popular) from Dionne Warwick would have been "Message to Michael"
Oh tell him how my heart just breaks in two
Since he journeyed far
And even though his dreams of fame fell through
To me he will always be a star
Spread your wings for New Orleans
Kentucky bluebird, fly away
And take a message to Michael, message to Michael
Ask him to start for home today
When you find him please let him know
Rich or poor, I will always love him so

A better choice from Dionne Warwick may be
"Message to Michael"
The Breakdown: he leaves to find fortune and fame as a singer and will send for her
The waterworks: "Oh tell him how my heart
just breaks in two since he journeyed far"
Casualty Count: round trip tickets, one woman's hope in a small town, one man's dreams in a big city.
Geeze. Even that makes me sad.

Josh, thank-you for your opinion expressed. You are certainly entitled to it and I repect your ability to express such a wonderful description for a woman who touched others in an era beyond that which you cannot comprehend. Now, go eat your Wheaties, and wash behind your ears. Brush your teath, it is your bed time and don't make your mother tell you twice.

This black GODDESS is my dream woman.

Dionne was the embodiment of the tasteful beauty and eloquence that flowed out of the music of Bacharach and David. Almost any song they did could be on one of the lists at this site. I agree with both the choice here, and with the other person's "Message to Michael" -- I was about to post that, and saw they captured what I was planning to, even better. And Warwicke is a legend, any way you look at the music.

Dionne Warwick has the voice of an angel--and Bacharach and David's music and lyrics are timeless, soul stirring.

"Walk on by" gets to me much more.

Yes, Josh has his head up his ass. Dionne is a legend.

Oh that takes me back. All of her songs make me sad. I was 9 years old when this was out. Always her songs.
SFOMARCOat 5-06-2007
yeah, "Walk on by" was great, but what about ALFIE? (previously recorded by Cher)
Katicaat 5-06-2007
Nice song
SCat 5-06-2007
I agree, "Alfie" is maybe even more poignant because it's about recognizing someone else's inability to love others (and check out the movie it comes from). Quick correction: I think Dionne actually recorded that song first, since it was penned by Bacharach and David for the movie. Cher covered it later. I think Dionne's has that thing she does with Bacharach music that makes hers the classic, for me. Good choice for sure!
