I believe that this is Bacharach's masterpiece - beautiful, beautiful song. Also beautiful by Dusty Springfield. "Message to Michael" is great, too. And Dusty's "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" and "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" belong here, too.

Sure, why not. Early 60's Motown/girl group sound was def a good one.

Think you're confusing Dionne with someone else. She did not record for Motown. Her early records were published in the UK on the PYE INTERNATIONAL label. But nevertheless she was truly BRILLIANT in fact she still is...

Luther's Version is much better. Then again Luther could sing UnderWater with frog (a real one)in his throat and outsing most.

#31, I am a huge Olivia N-J fan and I remember her being on a talk show with Dinah Shore [host] and Dionne Warwick. She did indeed thank Dionne with a very sincere heart. I also think Olivia's 1974 chart topper "I honestly love you" was another rather SAD song. Not too many would know Ellen Foley [Paradise by the dashboard light] but she delivered 3 albums. One contained the haunting song "Don't Let Go" which truly is worthy of being heard as a SAD SONG.
Needless to say, don't let go...[she's telling the person to hold on to their life]....and it sends chills.

I'VE ALWAYS LOVED HER VOICE, AND PERFORMANCES... SHE OWES AN ENORMOUS DEBT TO BACHARACH & DAVID, WHO WERE CHIEFLY RESPONSIBLE FOR HER CAREER'S LONGEVITY, HOWEVER. AS A PERSON... I LOST ALL RESPECT FOR HER WHEN SHE SHOWED HERSELF, NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE YEARS, TO BE A RACIST AND BIGOT. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT THE MUSIC... I ONLY WISH SHE'D KEPT IT THAT WAY.

Olivia Newton-John sang this song in a contest that she won and eventually brought her to the States. The rest is history. Check our her "Indigo" CD for her version.
