I unfortunate to lose my father at the age of four. Although, I now have a wonderful loving step father that raised me as I am sure my father would have.

From a father's perspective, my youngest son had this song played for me at his wedding reception. And yes, we did dance. I, too, cry every time I hear it.

My father never passed, but one thing is that he left my mother. I still see him to this day, but never as the man that would be waiting at home to give me a hug or to watch a track meet that I'm attending. I wish he would've never left and this song me crack right away.

Yes this song really touches me deep! I lost my father in 2002 to cancer. He was such a loving person to all people. I miss him dearly and when the song says" I would pray for her more than me" thats exactly what I would do because I could feel the pain my mom was experiencing and I could hear how she cried for my father.. Since that time I lost my mom the next year to cancer and now MORE THAN EVER..when I hear this song I cry a RIVER..R.I.P mom and dad:)

I'm with you Janelle. I lost my father(My Best Friend) on my ninth birthday in 1966.When he left for work He would leave me a quarter on a marble formica table beside his and my moms bed. The day after he died, and for many days after, I would stare at that table and cry. That song means so much to me.

This is hands down the sadest song on the face of the earth. The late Luther Vandros really sings this song from his heart. R I P

What about "The Beginning Of My End" by: The Unifics. About a man who had an argument with his lady. She jumps in her car and drove off and he later found out she was killed when her car crashed. That being said, I think the George Jones song is certainly worthy of being in the top 25.

He sang this song from experience. Songs like that are probably the best you'll hear anywhere. R.I.P. Luther

This is such a beautiful song and yes tugs at me so much, I can close my eyes and remember my Dad, who has passed away many years ago, but when I hear this song, it is like he is next to me. He was my mentor and I loved him so, so yes this is a tear jerker and really grabs the heart...

In a way, we have something in common. I knew my father but hated him till the day that he died and still do. When I hear this song, I change the words to mother and would listen to it for hours and cry.
