My father passed away 12/29/2006 and this song...I cannot bear to hear the first few notes of this song. It's a beautiful song; well written, arranged and Luther delivers (as always) vocally, and the subject matter is sad. This song takes on a new meaning (bcz it becomes personal) for anyone that has lost someone as special as my dad, Morris Erwin Sylver Sr. I love you dad. Always, your baby girl.

October 09 2009 at 6:30 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYes this song really touches me deep! I lost my father in 2002 to cancer. He was such a loving person to all people. I miss him dearly and when the song says" I would pray for her more than me" thats exactly what I would do because I could feel the pain my mom was experiencing and I could hear how she cried for my father.. Since that time I lost my mom the next year to cancer and now MORE THAN EVER..when I hear this song I cry a RIVER..R.I.P mom and dad:)
October 09 2009 at 4:54 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI lost my father when I was 30 years old. i was his little girl and we were the best pals. Everyone loved my father. EVERYONE The knot in my stomach and ball in my throat and sickness still is as fresh as day one
....this song reminds of him so much and even though it's been five years, I still cry when I hear it.
Luther Vandross and Daddy RIP :)
My father never passed, but one thing is that he left my mother. I still see him to this day, but never as the man that would be waiting at home to give me a hug or to watch a track meet that I'm attending. I wish he would've never left and this song me crack right away.
