'Dance With My Father'
Luther Vandross (2003)
The Breakdown: Impossibly wrenching lament for the fact that we can't take care of our kids forever.
The Waterworks: "Sometimes I'd listen outside her door/And I'd hear how my mother cried for him/I'd pray for her even more than me."
Casualty Count: One father, one boy's sense of security in his father's arms.

This is hands down the sadest song on the face of the earth. The late Luther Vandros really sings this song from his heart. R I P

What about "The Beginning Of My End" by: The Unifics. About a man who had an argument with his lady. She jumps in her car and drove off and he later found out she was killed when her car crashed. That being said, I think the George Jones song is certainly worthy of being in the top 25.

This is such a beautiful song and yes tugs at me so much, I can close my eyes and remember my Dad, who has passed away many years ago, but when I hear this song, it is like he is next to me. He was my mentor and I loved him so, so yes this is a tear jerker and really grabs the heart...

truly a great work brought to us all by a wonderful man inspired by what must ahave been a wonderful father. In a society now fillede with cold indifference and injustice, this mans work reminnds us of the rare but undeniable presence of beauty within the soul of humanity RIP

I lost my 44 year old husband in January 04. My sons were 6, 15, and 17 at the time. The first time I heard this song was at the cemetery on New Years Eve. My youngest son and I were sitting beside his grave with a portable radio. It was a little before midnight when this song came on. My heart aches for my sons, he was a wonderful dad. Hugs to all that have lost someone close to them.

This song reminds me of "grandpa" who we lost four years ago on May 8th. He loved to dance. Some of my strongest memories of him are him grabbing "grandma" and dancing with her randomly. I know she would love to dance with him again. And I also know he is up in heaven waiting for her to join him in the eternal dance
