Fountains of Wayne Get Schooled by Squeeze

Fountains of Wayne know a thing or two about songwriting but they'll get a thorough schooling this summer when they hit the road with reunited vets Squeeze and Crowded House, behind their own recently released 'Traffic and Weather' album.

"We found out through a fan that [Squeeze singer] Glenn Tilbrook was covering 'Red Dragon Tattoo' at his own shows," bassist Adam Schlesinger tells Spinner of the pairing's evolution. "Then we sort of became friends with him and that led to them offering us some dates on this reunion tour. The [Crowded House] thing just came from us begging a lot."

FOW recently got a preview of what touring with master songwriters is like when they joined Neil Sedaka on stage at NYC's Joe's Pub for a duet of 'Calendar Girl.' "We went up on stage and he's like, 'You guys remember the words?'" Schlesinger says. "We're like, 'It's the months. January ... ' That was it. So, we did remember."

With Sedaka, Squeeze and Crowded House collaborations under their proverbial belts, the band now have their eyes set on a certain pop star. "I'd like to do a duet with Justin Timberlake," Schlesinger says. "Whatever it was would sell a lot."
