IFLTS: 'Skyway,' Apples in Stereo

'Skyway,' Apples in Stereo
From 2007's 'New Magnetic Wonder'
Let's get this straight away: The Apples in Stereo are not a garage-rock band a la the Strokes or White Stripes. They are a psychedelic indie-pop band. But that doesn't mean they can't fake it. Enter 'Skyway,' a delicious little tune off of the indie rockers' latest album, 'New Magnetic Wonder.'
The verses -- half-talked, half-sung -- are unpredictable nuggets bested only by the crunchy, disjointed guitars. Yet the characteristic Apples sound isn't lost in translation: the million-miles-away vocals, hand claps and random background chatter of nameless characters are all present and accounted for. It sounds a chaotic mess but I sure as hell don't want to clean it up.
