Be Your Own Pet Monkey Around With the Arctics

On Sunday, Nashville's punky garage rockers Be Your Own Pet wrapped up a month's worth of dates with Britain's favorite indie rocking sons Arctic Monkeys, and according to BYOP guitarist Jonas Stein, the two bands got a long swimmingly. "I guess we're both kind of from towns that aren't the biggest in our countries and we both have youthful outlook on things," he tells Spinner. In fact, the two groups spent plenty of time together swapping stories backstage and hanging out in sweet rides on special occasions thanks to Arctic's management company. "It was their drummer's 21st birthday," Stein syas. "We had a little shindig that involved alcohol, dancing and music. Someone hooked [them] up with a stretch limo and we got to cruise around in that and that was pretty cool."
Also pretty cool? The fact that BYOP are taking all the new songs they played on the recent tour with the Monkeys -- 'Zombie Beach Party,' 'The Food Fight,' 'Bummertime,' 'The Kelley Affaire,' and 'Becky' -- as well as some unaired ones, and throwing them on their second album. "We've already got fifteen tracks," Stein says.
The foursome including punky blonde bombshell Jemina Pearl will record the second album with Redd Kross' Steve McDonald, who produced their self-titled debut. Following that, BYOP plan to splinter for a month of side project action; Stein and drummer John Eatherly will head East to tour with their band Turbo Fruits, bassist Nathan Vasquez will resync with Deluxin and Pearl will spend her hours with Cheap Time.
