The Dap-Kings Dish on Winehouse

Veteran funk band the Dap-Kings is best known for backing soul queens like Sharon Jones and, more recently, modern-day Ronette Amy Winehouse. Spinner caught up with Dap-Kings bandleader and bassist Bosco "Bass" Mann to find out what life on the road is like with our favorite newlywed drinking buddy. His first response was, "The money," but he went on to say, "It was nice for people to see how diverse the Dap-Kings are as a band, and of course playing Amy's music. She writes great music. It was interesting being on her first U.S. tour and watching the crowd get into it for the first time."

When asked who they'd pick if they had to choose between backing Winehouse and backing Jones, Mann told Spinner, "Playing with Amy is cool, but playing with Sharon is an experience. There is a lot spontaneous stuff going on with Sharon. You never know where she is going to go with a tune, so the band has to be right with her all the time. That is what makes a Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings show one of the greatest touring bands out there."
