'... But the Little Girls Understand'
The Knack, 1980
Rise: On the strength of the insanely catchy 'My Sharona' -- Dave Grohl's all-time favorite song -- the L.A. power pop band spent five weeks with the country's No. 1 album in '79.
Fall: A guilty pleasure from the start, the band was bound for a quick and violent backlash -- "Knuke the Knack"!
Stats: 'Get the Knack' (1979), 2 million; 'But the Little Girls Understand,' 500,000

This album really wasn't a flop... it was the bad publicity that instantly made the band taboo to the record buying public. Essentially, the press slammed the door on this band to the point where it was un-cool to have any association with their material. After that and one final album, they simply walked away until the 1990's.
Regardless, there are power pop classics on this release that cannot be ignored. Stand out material includes 'Tell me your Mine', 'Hold on tight and don't let go', and my personal favorite 'I want Ya'. I listen back to the first 2 knack records and cannot believe the talent of Bruce Gary and Berton Averre. IMHO, Bruce Gary is a name worthy to be mentioned with Neil Pert and Carl Palmer. As for Berton... just listen to the guitar leads and you will know what I'm talking about. He is gifted.
Don't listen to the bad press about this band. Their music is fun, energetic, and worth a place in your library.
