Alice Cooper doesn't argue that he and his fellow active vet rockers may seem a little out of place in today's scene, but to believe that they peaked in the '70s and '80s is completely off the mark. "We think that was the golden age -- when they were great," Cooper tells Spinner. "But when we go out on tour with Cheap Trick, Deep Purple, Motorhead or Joan Jett, we listen to them. They're better players now than they were then.To that end, Cooper is hitting the road this summer for a European jaunt followed by a stateside tour, with Motorhead and Joan Jett. The rocker will then head into the studio to record a new album. "Double album, I hope," he clarifies.
As for the key to longevity, Cooper delivers it simply: sobriety. "The ones that cleaned up are still going."
