Bono Raises Voice Against Poverty in Germany
- Posted on Jun 7th 2007 11:28AM by Melissa Olund
Today in Rostock, Germany, Bono, Bob Geldof, Youssou N'Dour and a host of international musicians evoked the lyrics of the Beatles and Bob Marley to urge world leaders to aid impoverished countries. At the 'Voices Against Poverty' concert, musicians led the crowd in sing-alongs of 'You Never Give Me Your Money' and 'Redemption Song.' Organized by Geldof, the concert's mission is to raise awareness of world poverty amid the G8 summit, being held in nearby Heiligendamm.Tune in to rebroadcast now.

Not everyone is such a fan of "saint bono". Some are highly critical of the way he carries out his "activism" seeing it as self-promoting and tokenistic.

He wants to change the world, what's wrong with it? He doesn't do it for publicity and all the people who "hate" him or say U2 sucks proved they know nothing about music and nothing about humanity.
He's doing what he believes in. He's just a bit more famous than the rest of the good people who want to change the world.
These guys don't have to do what they are doing, they're wealthy and I'm sure have very busy and full lives. So many just want to make sure they get theirs and then run the other direction when there are tough things to be done. I wish them nothing but the best.

They unfortunately have governments that are crooked, constantly fighting and being overthrown, ruled by dictators who pocket all of that countries money for themselves, or have huge debts they are trying to repay to richer countries. These countries do not have schools, hospitals, or employment opportunities like countries such as the USA. So please think about that when you complain about your job, or your food being too cold, or your car isn't sporty enough, or your house has only 3 bedrooms.

To all those who criticize...when was the last time YOU'VE done something for someone else. He uses his fame (yes and his money) to do something right. He is also very approachable and loves his fans. He will even go into the parking lot to chat with people before their concert starts. Love you Bono.

June 12 2007 at 9:03 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI met Bono and Edge in Tampa about a month or two after 9/11, the day after George Harrison died. Bono spent quite a lot of time speaking to a very young couple whom he seemed to know. The Edge was checking out my date. He signed her belly LOL!! We didnt have anything else for him to sign on us. I asked Bono to please play "In God's Country" as the people in the United States were still in shock over 9/11, he is NOT like his photos or stage presence at all, in fact you would most likely think he was an old Dead Head that had not gotten news Jerry Garcia had died. He grunted something like "yeah, yeah that sounds good" He isn't very personable either, he just kind of shakes with a limp hand and grunts "yeah" "Uh uh" etc. I've often thought that he is way too forceful and vocal in his "World Political" agenda. He is a rock and roll singer NOT A WORLD leader, please don't let these types fool you. They are mostly about themselves and barely can disguise it. Sting,Boss, Bono these are the worst violators. You guys play great music live and on recordings but you are not trained politicians. Sure the world is a wicked place and always will be, it is a temporary place for us and life is very short. It's not meant to be fair or any of the above. If life were fair you'd be the one singing rock and roll and hanging with the Pope (after you just got done visiting your harem of groupies that is LOL!!) Sorry I am glad that they have something to say other than "Rock and Roll" but it does get a bit old after while, and I would like to see actual fiscal facts on the amount of thier personal donations, probably wouldn't buy a mansion outside of Dublin.
