Cold War Kids Move From Dog Shows to White Stripes

"We used to just play all the time, almost any time somebody asked us," Cold War Kids frontman Nathan Willet told Spinner of the band's early days. "We showed up to this one gig in L.A. and found out that it was a high-brow dog show. We played to about three people."

With a few years and an acclaimed album under their ~~collars~~ belts, the indie-soul quartet has scored a gig opening for the White Stripes this fall. The tour kicks off Sept. 19 in Inglewood, Calif., and will take the bands up the West Coast, into Alaska and across the Great Plains.
