Paul decided it was over. John 2nd, Ringo had quit, George watched quietly as it fell apart. comparing the stones and the beatles are apples and oranges. Her Satanic Majesties Request was no Sgt Pepper's, but the White Album was no Exile. The only thing the bands had in common, outside of early american R&B & R-n-R,was, they were both from England.

Revolution, Come Together, For You Blue, I Am The Walrus, Baby You're A Rich Man, If I Fell, You Can't Do That, Thank You Girl, Things We Said Today, Don't Let Me Down, I Saw Her Stabding There, Day Tripper, Eleanor Rigby, The Inner Light, Rain, Strawberry Fields Forever...AND EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE GREAT SONGS WAS A "B" SIDE.

Give the Fab Four credit for having the common sense to call it a day before they had become a tired old joke like Mick and the boys.
Jagger once said he wouldn't be caught singing Satisfaction when he was 30. He was right. he stopped "singing" about 35 years ago. He (and the rest of the Stones) are more pose than rock & roll.
And while the Beatles steadfastly refused to sell their songs for commercial use, Jagger has no problem selling out.

I could not agree more with John. I will even go so
far as to say that Jagger/Richards music and songs are far far better than Lennon/McCartney.

What the Stones do seems simple, but when you get down to it, genius always seems simple, it's the idea that everyone knows they could have easily thought of. One really good example is their much-malingned release off their latest album, "Bigger Bang", Rough Justice. Not that good say reviewers, not that popular say record buyers, bleeped at the Super Bowl, yet I saw two uses of the term Rough Justice in magazines in the past two months, one a reference to Iraq in Time and the other escapes me just now. The number of phrases they have brought into the lexicon is prodigious to say the least, from I can't get no satisfaction, to you can't always get what you want to 19th nervous breakdown to get off my cloud to you'll never make a saint of me to out of control to shattered to brown sugar to some girls to honkey tonk woman (every country singer in the universe wishes they would have thought of that one) to gimmie shelter to miss you to under my thumb, well you get the point. No one has written more good music than the Stones, and that includes Beethoven!
