    20 Killer B-Sides: No. 20

They were throwaways, afterthoughts and also-rans -- songs the original artists relegated to B-sides. Looking back, they make a pretty killer A-list from a half century of rock and pop.

    Madonna

    'Into the Groove'
    --Madonna (1985)

A leftover from the sessions for Madge's debut album, this song was released as the B-side of the 12-inch mix of 'Angel.' Though it became a smash, partly due to its appearance in 'Desperately Seeking Susan,' the song did not officially chart in the U.S.

Wow, "Into The Groove" was almost shelved? I love that song, and often times listen to it when I work out. It's such a good song with an upbeat mood. Madonna may not be the best singer, dancer or actress out there, but she's definitely unforgettable!!!

No, Into The Groove was not from the debut album Madonna, if any album it would have been on the Like A Virgin album but she used it for a dance scene in Desperately Seeking Susan but was planning to give it to another upcoming artist at the time. Due to the overwhelming response she was forced to release it.Its actually a demo..at the time she was rising and rising and thats why they tagged it onto the single Angel

Wow Jerel, you know your music! Or is it that you are just into Madonna? I love it when web sites print wrong information, then someone like you comes along with the right 411 and prints the truth. lol.

They said it was "leftover from the sessions" of her debut album. So it wasnt the wrong information...it just means she had recorded it for the first album but it didnt make it on to that particular one. (left over)

Can't believe this tune was almost an "after thought"... my favorite Madonna song... one of her many great hits! It brings me back to being a senior in high school... Thanks for the memory!

Jerel, I'm going to have to correct you. The caption above never stated that the song Into The Groove was on the debut album. It was taken from SESSIONS from the debut album. The song was actually one she didn't plan to release. The movie Desperately Seeking Susan changed that and the song Into the Groove was NEVER put on an album other than the DSS soundtrack until her greatest hits album came out. Spinner.com is NOT wrong. Read it again.

The song Into The Groove was part of SESSIONS while recording her debut album. The song was never meant for release but was released for her movie Desperately Seeking Susan. So...no the site here IS NOT wrong. The song DID originate from the debut album but never was put on the album. JEREL get it straight.

Well at least play the original mix of this song. This Itunes track is the awful remix from her You Can Dance EP. The original, though very similar, was much more meatier and had more soul than this mix. You can get the original on her Like A Virgin CD (Import only)

I'm a huge Madonna fan, and Into The Groove perenially ranks among my Top 5 Madonna songs. Easily the best song ever recorded about dancing. Take that Irene Cara!

I remember as a kid my sister talking about this song saying it was a b-side. At the time it seamed like a b-side type of song. Of course that all changed! I almost forgot about those thoughts from the past, until now.

What is REALLY funny is I remember dressing like her and thinking I was ohhhhh so cool! My favorite outfit was a white really, really, short, frilly, white mini skirt, hot lime green or fushia pink frilly topped bobby socks, a t-shirt that was ripped and sleeves rolled up of the same color, big earrings, lots of bracelets of the same color and white high heel pumps! Oh, and don't forget the big, teased hair! My friend and I went to see her when she was in concert and I remember it was really hot out but a great show anyway! I was also a club d.j. at the time and I remember mixing into the groove at the break in the record with FRANKIE goes to Hollywood and the song RELAX. The pitch had to be turned up but it could be done with some practice. It could also be mixed with Salt n Peppa "Push it"! Come to think of it...it could mixed with most songs of the day because they were all right around 36-38 bpm's give or take a few!
