Gloria Gaynor

'I Will Survive'
--Gloria Gaynor (1978)

The disco era's definitive anthem of longevity was originally pegged with a short lifespan when Polydor relegated it to the B-side of the lead single from the album 'Love Tracks.' In hindsight, the A-side was aptly named: 'Substitute.'

Really, what else is there to say? I Will Survive. And that's it. So kiss my ass, I'm moving on. Classic.

I love this song. Its the ultimate song for both men and women recovering from a breakup and helping to soothe that devistating feeling.

This song is so lame! Oh, I got dumped but I will survive. Waa, Waa get over it! Surviving is still being alive after you had to listen to it. Go ahead and leave your coke lines and money on the bar- while you go dance to this crappy song. Thanks for the free drugs and cash. This songis so bad it could probably kill you if you have to listen to it more than once every ten years.

OMG, you want to talk about back in the day?? You lived in the stone age Sootfoot5, but I must have lived in the Ice Age b/c I remember things that were put out before cassettes called "8 track" tapes. I still have my collection, along with my little 45's and bigger LP's. I remember this huge disco that I went to with three levels in it. There were about 7 different bars, different themes in each bar. The songs that the DJ would play then would be played on an "Oldies" station today. It makes me feel old, but going on 45, I still don't feel that old lol. I do remember the kids doing coke, but I was so into acid back then, not the coke scene, b/c of a heart palpitation problem, which coke just exaggerated.

You babies just don't know what it was like - in my day (the stone age) when this music was new and people still played LPs or cassettes, this was the song that got everyone up off their butts to dance. Folks even left their coke lines on the bar unguarded to dance when a song this great came on - no lie! (in the really big discos there were more than one bar and the bars to the back of the club were where the coke heads hung out - that way there was warning when the police came in) Whether a girl was pretty or a guy had money was not the most important criteria in a date or dance partner - it was whether they could dance! The mirror ball would turn, the strobe light would flash, and all would be right in our little world.

Nash, I totally agree with you. I remember roller skating in the late 70's or early '80's, as a teenager whenever this song came out, and just moving my whole body to this song.
