'Love Will Tear Us Apart,' Joy Division

A friend of mine had a Joy Division tape when I was a kid -- about 15 or so. I remember hearing it in the car and that was it. I pretty much immediately had their whole catalogue after that. Where I grew up -- a small town in Northern California called Ukiah that's basically in the middle of the woods -- that song would've never been played on the radio in a million years. Not so much cool radio there.

There's something about 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' that is so musically unique. It's kind of dance-y on the one hand, but on the other, it's really dark and sort of ominous while being beautiful and melodic at the same time. The riff is so great -- it stays in your head -- and then combine that with the amazing lyrics. It's definitely one of my favorite songs of all time.

Nick 13 is the frontman for psychobilly rockers Tiger Army. The band released their new album, 'Music From Region's Beyond,' earlier this month.

Actually, the side project Electronic was just between Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr of the Smiths featuring a few collaborations with Neil Tennant of PSB across their three albums. I'll second that Revenge deserves a listen, though Monaco was a better exercise for Peter Hook.

Very much anticipating the biographic film from Anton Corbijn.

I remember when this Song first came out. I have the 12' and 45 single import of these songs. There were different mixes. A faster version which is hard to find on CD. Unfortunately Ian Curtis hung himself before the song was a big UK hit. He suffered from seizures though some say he had broken off a love relationship. She's Lost Control (also covered by Grace Jones) is another one of my favorite songs by JD
The group reformed to New Order with great success like Age Of Consent, top 40 hit True Faith and their club classic Blue Monday.
They also set out to do other projects with Pet Shop Boys on the hit Getting Away With It by Electronics. Also check out Revenge-7 Reasons...awesome song!

Wonderful song from Ian & Co. Shame almost no one knows about them. "Transmission" and "Shadowplay" are two other nice little gems from JD.
