Almost two years after they finished mixing their sophomore album in Los Angeles, Denmark's delectable superpop duo Junior Senior are finally giving the record a stateside release. Ryko will release 'Hey Hey My My Yo Yo' -- the follow up to 'D-D-Don't Don't Stop the Beat' -- on August 14."[For us it wasn't] about money, but how we would like things to be," frontman Jeppe "Senior" Laursen tells Spinner of the album delay. "We weren't in a hurry and if you want an album out in the U.S., you want to be a priority."While the duo took their time sorting out a stateside imprint, they didn't put things on hold, promoting the effort across Europe and Japan. Aside from the record's irresistibly catchy cuts like the Jackson 5-flavored 'We Are The Handclaps,' and the syrupy dance floor pop of 'Can I Get Get Get,' Junior Senior also wrote a host of new, equally infectious tunes to feature on a U.S.-only bonus EP.
"They're not B-sides," Laursen states of the new stuff, including 'Stranded On an Island Alone,' and 'Simple For Simple Minds.' "It's spontaneous, more in your face. It's definitely another step in our own shoes."
Junior Senior plan to take their bag of songs and bubbly live set on a U.S. tour later this summer. "Touring is really the most exciting thing for us," Laursen says. "The U.S. is probably the country that understood us the most and got a full picture of us as a band. And [I love the fact that] the U.S. has a tradition of, if you're into a band you get to know the whole album. If people like your first album, they stick around for the second one.
"It's like seeing old friends," he adds of the jaunt. "It's gonna be superfun!"
