Bono Actually Shuns Spotlight
- Posted on Jun 22nd 2007 7:00AM by David Sprague
It always kind of ticks us off when artists go out of their way to remind the world that they did something important at some point in the distant past -- Elton John's dogged insistence on flogging the 30th anniversary of 'Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy' comes to mind. As such, we have to admit to feeling a certain amount of satisfaction at hearing the members of U2 emit a collective yawn when told that it was 24 years ago today -- well, 24 years ago come August 21 -- that they played the show that would form the basis of 'Under a Blood Red Sky.'The folks at Colorado's Red Rocks concert venue -- which hosted the concert in question -- contacted Bono's boys to mention that they'd be throwing an anniversary party at which they planned to recreate that show exactly as it happened back in 1983. That notion apparently didn't excite the Irish foursome all that much, so they declined to take part in the festivities -- a twist that didn't faze the Red Rocks reps, who've opted to go ahead with their plan, using a U2 tribute band in place of the real deal. Heck, who even knew Hothouse Flowers were still accepting gigs?

why is U2 referred to as "Bono's Boys", does anyone care that there are THREE other band members in U2? I bet half the people on this site couldn't name the rest of the band.

July 19 2007 at 6:59 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWell, we really don't have to "reunite" U2 since they are still together.... And seriously, who holds a 24th anniversary gig? They couldn't just wait for the 25th, at least that might make it somewhat interesting.

They have NEVER gone away. So I'm not surprised at all that they are accepting gigs. They play year round every year.

I think the writer knows it was in June, but the writing seems a little confusing, the way it was worded.

The anniversary concert is being held in August for some odd reason. I live in CO and go to Red Rocks often, take my word on it. Just for clarification. 0.-

'blood red sky' is a great live album, but reuniting the band to perform it now would just be ridiculous. they are four completely diff people. i mean, how could bono recreate that mullet?!
