Calloo, callay! It's truly a red (and white) letter day here at With a Bullet! We simply couldn't be more pleased and proud to feature this photograph of Jack and Meg White, who must be busting the dozens of buttons on their snazzy Pearly King and Queen-inspired outfits you now see before you, as the chart-topping debut of the White Stripes' sixth long-player, 'Icky Thump,' finally gives the dashing Detroit duo its first No. 1 album! The cream really does rise to the top every once in a while! What a vindication this is for the plucky peppermint-stick-colored pair after plugging away assiduously for lo these many years! Lookin' good, Jack and Meg!Excuse me, gentle reader -- my editor is motioning for me to come into his office. I'll be right back to rhapsodize further on the White Stripes, the number-one group in the whole United States of America!
Update: It seems this reporter may have been a little hasty -- the latest album chart actually lists the debut of the White Stripes' 'Icky Thump' at No. 2; evidently a new Bon Jovi country record is No. 1.
Good for him.
- We here at WaB have time and time again been accused of not exactly giving those high-riding country acts the longest of shrift. And we're more than a little bit offended! We realize and appreciate country-and-western music as one of the strongest and most enduring foundations, one might even say the ramrod-erect backbone, of the entirety of American vernacular music! (Excuse us for a second while we get this out of the way: B. Paisley #3; T. Keith #4.) Now where were we?
- And in the What the Bleedin' French Fry?! Dept., Canada's answer to thankfully no American band, Nickelback, continue to somehow sell enough of their 'All the Right Reasons' CDs to maintain their Top 30 placement for what will soon be two years. Are there really that many wobbly table legs in North America that need propping up?
- Weekly Winehouse Watch: blah blah blah Amy Winehouse blah blah blah blah beehive hairdo blah blah No. 7 blah blah blah drinks a lot blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah Colgate.
- 'Lost Highway,' Bon Jovi (292,000 in 1st week)
- 'Icky Thump,' the White Stripes (224,000 in 1st week)
- '5th Gear,' Brad Paisley (197,000 in 1st week)
- 'Big Dog Daddy,' Toby Keith (73,000 in 2nd week; 278,000 total)
- 'Memory Almost Full,' Paul McCartney (64,000 in 3rd week; 332,000 total)
