Jose Gonzalez Challenges Religion With 'Nature'
- Posted on Jul 3rd 2007 1:00PM by Nadine Cheung
Jose Gonzalez can write a damn good love song, but on his new album, 'In Our Nature,' due Sept. 25, the soft-spoken Swede challenges human belief in God and religion -- with a sense of humor. "Religion is a sensitive subject and it's more important to be humble than to force your view on other people," Gonzalez tells Spinner. "But I think Winnie the Pooh is a more interesting story than the Bible."Inspired by 'The God Delusion' -- a Richard Dawkins book that Gonzalez calls "anti-religion" -- 'Nature' is the follow-up to 2005's 'Veneer.' Look for Gonzalez's second appearance on the Interface coming in September, and download his debut Interface podcast.

Marilyn,
We also know that Newton believed alchemy was a worthy pursuit. Since we know how well the efforts to turn lead into gold have gone, should we examine all of Newton's studies independently and evaluate the evidence for each? Maybe he was wrong sometimes.
Marilyn, the story you quote about Newton, "Newton's Orrery", is, like your theology, a myth. In this case, the myth was invented and perpetuated by creationists. You would do well to look deeply into the truth behind the garbage you quote from such liars.

Well, if you want to play THAT game...who made God? If your answer is God always was then why can't you believe that the Cosmos (which at least has reality on its side) has always existed, Big Bang after Big Bang.
NOBODY knows or will ever know what was at the Beginning. Frankly, I don't care if you want to call it God (though I'm sure you would narrow it down to a certain God among many) but do not embrace the silly notion that it "lovingly placed man here on this earth and that he is deeply interested in us!"
Let's be real.
Take care.
The discoverer of the "law of gravity," Sir Isaac Newton, was another who was deeply impressed by the evidence of God's invisible qualities that are to be seen in His creation. The following account relates how Newton testified to his belief in Almighty God:
Newton once had a skilled mechanic make for him a model of the solar system. Balls representing the planets were geared together so as to move realistically in orbit. One day an atheist friend visited Newton. On seeing the model, he operated it, and exclaimed in admiration, "Who made it?" Newton answered, "Nobody!" The atheist replied, "You must think I am a fool! Of course somebody made it, and he is a genius." Newton then said to his friend, "This thing is but a puny imitation of a much grander system whose laws you know, and I am not able to convince you that this mere toy is without a designer and maker; yet you profess to believe that the great original from which the design is taken has come into being without either designer or maker!"
Newton's friend came to acknowledge that the great Designer and Maker of all things is God. Surely we, too, as we look on the marvels of creation about us, in the heavens and on earth, must acknowledge that an all-wise Creator made it all! How thankful we should be that this mighty Creator lovingly placed man here on this earth and that he is deeply interested in us!
