Whether the cause is global warming, famine relief or SARS, there's no shortage of musicians ready to rock for the good of humanity. But every now and then, the benefit concert stage is a setting for truly magical musical moments. Here are 10 performances that had us scrambling for our checkbooks.

Justin Timberlake & The Rolling Stones

Who: Justin Timberlake & the Rolling Stones
What:
'Miss You'
Where: Toronto Rocks
When:
July 30, 2003

After being booed and bottled offstage by the rabid rock crowd during his solo set, Justin and his huge cojones returned to help the Stones dust off their disco classic. This time, the 450,000 haters kept their jeers to themselves.

hey black, if it wasn't for our forfathers, you wouldn't be aloud to talk like that. you have your rights, but as far as i am concerned you have no right to dis our country. if your a real man pick up a weapon and stand your post otherwise kiss my ass and go live in iraq.

Its a nice try, al gore, however...it's all hypocritcial and a massive waste of time and resources. we can not save ourselves from ourselves. the only way is to turn outside of ourselves to the one who can save us. -bh

It seems clear that Justin's appearance on stage with the Stones was a spontaneous gift from the rockers. There was no rehersal. That's why Justin was watching Jagger's lead the whole time and was improvising. Unfortunately, Justin didn't have the raw talent or the versatility to pull it off given the fact that he's so into this hip-hop personna and couldn't switch over. This came as a bit of a surprise, given the fact that he has been performing since he was a child. Anyway, again (reference #10) the message is taken from a higher level. The Stones are a product of the Sixties. Love and Peace. This was a concert about uniting the planet -- one world -- we're all people. The Stones "get it." They are mature and self-actualized both as musician/performers and as individuals. They, no doubt, reached out to Justin after he was booed off stage. "Dude, you're going back out with us." They wanted to save him. They were doing this charitable concert because they want to save people. They want to save the planet.
This is the message of the sixties. This is cool, man. This is what the concert was all about. The chartacter of the Stones is cool. The importance of what we need to grasp from this situation is bigger than Timberlake. I'm not a tree hugging ultra-liberal nut, but I do admire such magnanimous behavior. Jagger is a great human being and, obviously, a great friend. We should be as courageous a freind, even if it could risk or compromise our own status -- as in this case with Jagger.

To David Jordan -- nice comments. :-)

Poor Justin, he looked so awkward and lost. He doesn't seem to move freely to the music. His costume belongs on somebody else. Who is he trying to be anyway? Maybe he hasn't really found his true, grown-up stage persona.

The Stones are consumate rock musicians. Mick has unparalleled stage presence. It's always a pleasure to listen to/watch them.

I am CRYING A RIVER because the Stones allowed him onstage with them.

MICK AND THE BOYS ARE THE BEST. PERIOD.

Oh...and #4..I don't hate you. I just feel sorry for you. Hatred and envy leads to the Dark Side of the Force. Just say no to Vader. ;p
