Extreme Green Musicians: No. 6

Raitt is not only an environmental activist, she also goes to great lengths to recognize others dedicated to the cause. As a founding member of Musicians United for Safe Energy, the blues rocker held the 2002 'Green Highway' benefit concert, which aimed to promote alternative energy solutions. Raitt also dedicated a humanitarian award to Julia Butterfly Hill, who sat in a tree for a year to help save the California redwoods. Raitt hiked a mountain trail and then used a pulley system to get up to Hill's perch and deliver the award.

Yes, it is indeed a sham. Gore's in on the take (he has ownership in a "Carbon offset" company). However, environmental awareness is a positive outcome of this energy consuming, trash producing, hypocrite run extravaganza that was indeed quite boring. I've got my own reasons for protecting the environment, and they have more to do with the STEWARDSHIP of creation that is the responsibility of all mankind. Let's not forget that the best way to have an impact is to waste less of everything. Don't get too caught up in worrying whose organization deserves more of your environmental guilt money. Feel free to disagree and/or castigate my philosophy. Peace.
