Orgy Guys Resurface in Julien-K

Julien-K's Ryan Shuck has seen the faces of fans when his band takes the stage. "I know some of the kids recognize us. I can see them while I'm playing," he tells Spinner. "They're going, 'Is that Orgy?'" Not quite, but close. Shuck and Amir Derakh from Orgy did start Julien-K, and like Orgy, Julien-K is a dance/rock hybrid -- only with the emphasis this time 'round more on the dance."We're actually skewed more electronic, a little less rock," Derakh says. "Deep down inside we really felt that we had always wanted the band to go in the direction of what we're doing now."
"That was the initial thought behind Orgy," Shuck adds. "To become an electronic band that could play with the likes of the rock bands."
The band -- Shuck, Derakh, Elias Andra and Brandon Belski -- will do just that this summer, touring behind their yet-to-be-released debut, 'Death to Analog,' on Linkin Park's Projekt Revolution tour. They'll join the likes of LP, My Chemical Romance, HIM and others. Projekt Revolution is a very apt debut for Julien-K, as the band sares a close relationship with LP frontman Chester Bennington. In fact, they back him on his solo project, Dead by Sunrise. "It's a story in itself that Julien-K is actually Dead By Sunrise -- the whole f***ing band," Shuck says. "We are the same band. One with Chester singing, one with me singing. And Chester plays on Julien-K."
Meanwhile, Julien-K have their sights on bigger things. Like, say, a musical revolution. "I haven't seen any bands stirring s**t up, bringing a new look, a new everything and kids buying guitars because they want to sound like that band. I see all these tiny little niche markets with no real leaders," Shuck says. "I give a s**t about making a wave. I give a s**t about playing with all these electronic bands, all these rock bands and wiping my a** with them. And I mean that in a friendly, competitive way."
