When They Rocked: 1958–present
Most bands would kill to have a career half as successful as the Chipmunks. During their 50-year, 39-album run, Alvin, Simon and Theodore outlived doo-wop, New Wave, gangsta rap and grunge, earning two No. 1 singles and five Grammys along the way. The squeaky-voiced trio's cred will rise even higher this December, when a live-action film based on the group hits theaters. Who knew rodents had such staying power?

Okay, here's my list of missing groups:
Chattanooga Cats
Beagles
Banana Splits (or maybe they lose points for being guys in costumes?)
The Way Outs (from the Flintstones)
Groovie Ghoulies!!! (come on! you mentioned them in the Gorillaz profile!)
and last but not least:
The Ex Presidents!!!
Oh, and of course there were cartoons based on real bands, like the Beatles and the Jackson 5 but I don't suppose they counted since they weren't "virtual" bands.
And where, if anywhere, would the Monkees fit into all this? :-)
Beavis and Butt-Head?

April 21 2008 at 11:00 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyKenou, I think this list only includes groups that were cartoons only, not cartoons based on real bands. That's a whole other list. Here are a few:
The Beatles
The Jackson Five
Kid N Play
New Kids on the Block
The Osmond Brothers
The Partridge Family in Outer Space
Here one, though--what about "The Brady Kids?" Anyone remember that cartoon? Then there's The Chan Clan from "The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan." There was also "The Chattanooga Cats," which was pretty bad, actually. And hey, does anyone remember "Meatballs and Spaghetti?"
what happened with the banana splits, the partridge family (cartoon on wcbs-tv) and butch cassidy (cartoon on wnbc-tv)? you're missing quite a few more.
April 21 2008 at 7:47 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyKISS had their own Marvel comic book and have been featured at least twice on Family Guy, including the Christmas special KISS Saves Santa. How did I get on this shitty website? Why did I stay on for the last hour? I'm outta here!

Their first album sold very well and the second is a collector's item. Some of the best writers, musicians and producers in the game made those records and they deserve at least a mention.
