'Requiem,' Killing Joke
From 1980's 'Killing Joke'
This is the best song ever written. The hardest thing in the world is to write a slow song or a ballad, and still make it powerful. Which is probably why most artists don't even attempt it -- it's too hard to achieve. I tried it with Ministry's 'The Fall' and 'Scarecrow,' so I know how hard it is. But 'Requiem' by Killing Joke is a thousand times more heavy and powerful than most of the thrash metal, in-your-face music that's out there now. This song will last for eternity. It's magical and immortal. I've been driving down the highway, heard 'Requiem' come on the radio and pulled over just so I could listen to it. I can't say that about any other song. It's a true masterpiece.
