Women Behind the Songs: 'Rosanna'
- Posted by Spinner

From Toto's 'Rosanna' (1982)
Ah, Hollywood. The Rosanna in question is surnamed Arquette -- yes, of 'Desperately Seeking Susan' fame -- and she happened to be the muse/lover of Toto keyboardist Steve Porcaro. Ironically, Porcaro neither sang the song -- that would be frontman Bobby Kimball -- nor wrote it. The author was David Paich, who -- in a rare example of rock brotherhood -- penned the song to celebrate the love between his bandmate and Arquette, not to try to win her away from Porcaro. When you were born, God had one of his best days.
I love you so.
I love this song. It reminds me of my childhood. :) My parents would always listen to Toto when I was little. I loved 'Africa' too!!

I am so sick of this. I will finally speak out regarding Roseanna Arquette being the inspiration for "In Your Eyes". It was another young woman, also an actress, who was the inspiration for the song. I don't know if it's Arquette's camp who is generating this rumor, or the public. Her identity is not revealed because at the time Gabriel was still officially married. Arquette and Gabriel didn't even meet until after the album came out. I should know. I co-produced the album. And furthermore "Roseanna" is not about Arquette either. The band, Toto, has many times, told the press, that she did NOT serve as the inspiration to the song, only the name. I hope this puts the issue to rest.
