Best Opening Lyrics: No. 13

"What's with these homies dissin' my girl?"
--Weezer's 'Buddy Holly'

And with these words, Rivers Cuomo became the dorkiest rock star since, well, Buddy Holly.

James Michalekat 8-06-2007

Only the single best selling artist since Elvis. The only artist ever to have TWO albums in the ALL TIME top ten best seller's list. How about the main attraction of the concert with the biggest audience ever.

Hey #2 Chris! Whats a Garth Brooks? Either you have a great sense of humor or just don't remember "well i've got friends in low places, where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases my blues away"

Garth Brooks sucks incredibly bad. I'm sorry you rednecks want in his pants. Not only does he suck, he has that awful alter ego nonsense for a while. Listen to something that doesn't involve alcohol or a dog dying.

to 2 and 6. Can't you find a small animal to torture or something. People get on here to share their thoughts not to be ridiculed by the like of either of you. Wether you like country or not Garth was an ultimate. Just like Hendrix. Learn to let go of such anger towards people you don't even know. There is enough of that in the world. FYI I listen to it all and yes I mean ALL! Get over yourself and move on.

First off, why are all you idiots talking about garth brooks on a weezer lyric page. Secondly, garth brooks is a chump. Anyone rememebr whne he spawned another personality called Chris gaines? I don't even mind his music but you are putting him on this crazy pedestal and weezer is far far better anyway

weezer is a joke, and garth brooks is even worse, and i don't see how garth brooks can even be considered as popular as elvis was when the majority of the worl doesn't even listen to country. But anything belongs up here besides go shoprty its your birthday. i love you you love me might as well be no 1, and lifes too short shut up this isn't about stupid little life changing speeches, he doesnt have to know garthbrooks personally to hate his music.

#6.....I am NOT a redneck. I was just surprised that chris apparently did not know Garth Brooks. I don't need to defend Garth or his billions of $ he made on the 115 million albums, tours, etc.
Peace!

He used the word Homie for that exact reason. It was meant to be funny. The key to the first line in a song is to grab the listeners attention. He did that with this song. And with the whole apparent Garth Brooks scandal. if you check album sales a large portion of america which is where the vast majority of english speaking music is sold does listen to country however the amount of money you make doesn't make you a great musician. Warren Zevon one of the best songwriters was never an extremely wealthy musician. to base greatness on money and record sales is to say that the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears are more talented then Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan. Garth Brooks and Elvis both deserve there places as music Legends however let's keep that in perspective they were great entertainers not musicians. I like Garth Brooks and if I didn't live in Memphis I would prolly like Elvis more than I do but they were entertainers Hendrix was a musician Dylan and Rivers Cuomo are writers. Lets give credit where it is due and not misinterpret what makes people great and why they are great.
