Even though Dylan wrote the lyrics, it should be considered a Hendrix song. Certain songs sound better as the cover then as the original. This being one of them. "Blinded by the Light" is another. Manfred Manns version trumps the Boss's version.

I wonder if anyone noticed or watched The new Battlestar Galactica. When you realize the numbers they were given to find Earth in the end turn out to be the Music to all along the watchtower from hendrix. That was creepy along with them showing how much technology and robotics are taking over ur lives.

If no artist had ever written the lyrics, no singer could have ever sung them. Writing still counts for something. Dylan is and always will be a superb songwriter. I agree Hendrix gave the song some "ooomph", but when I first heard the song on Dylan's album, I knew immediately it was great. It would be a joke to compare Dylan's guitar playing with Hendrix. Hendrix did give the song some extra octane. We can all agree on that.

the title of this topic clearly states "best opening lyrics" do your research and you will see more than half of these people on this list also did not write their songs. so why the arguement?
