--Simon and Garfunkel's 'The Sound of Silence'
It reads like Dante's 'Inferno,' but it's forever linked to the equally sinister imagery of Dustin Hoffman floating in a pool.
Listen to the line!

Hey, I'm 48 yrs. old. I wore this song off the turntable when I was in my teens. I loved this song among the many other Simon and Garfunkel stuff. They had something to sing about.

That dude with the short black hair has a terrible hair cut. It makes his head look like a billboard. They are retarted.

fantastic line and song. Should have come with a warning on the album "do not play if depressed"

Ohh I truly love this song. Simon and Garfunkel can do no wrong. Hey Spinner, isn't it curfew time for your writers?

My wife was to listen to this song as an excersise in class (late 1960's), and then told to write how the song made her feel. She said it was sad, and made her depressed. Her parents were called in for a visit with the school psychologist! LMAO! We still bust her chops if it comes on the radio, even though she's my ex, we're on good terms. Hey Ana! They're playing your song! Can you imagine? Like her feeling was wrong. I find it damn depresing myself, but damn true too. People hearing without listening, etc. Say what you will about Paul Simon, but he is a great lyricist.

Yeah because it's all about hair. Bone head. Figures you're a Poison freak. Poison was to the New York Dolls what The Monkees were to the Beatles.

mmm..the guitar, the unison note that breaks off into a haunting harmony...it isnt just the words that make this one of the best opening lines to a song ever:-)

What a great song to remember! I used to love Simon and Garfunkel. I think they had a reunion on some TV show, possibly an awards show...

Only 21? Isn't there anyone else on this site over 30?

It was SNL the second episode of the first season. Part of the deal was that Art had to be allowed to do some of his own solo songs. They also reunited a few years back to do a show at Madison Square Garden and when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Don Sheltonat 6-22-2009
Didn't they also video a live concert in Central Park?

NicknMemphis, thanks for enlightening us! Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle were the ballad writers of our day, like Dylan and others. We need more true musicians who write and sing from their souls. Songs that make us want to love one another not those of hate and road rage.
