Yeah, we don't have enough ghetto music as it is without people like this. What an 'excellent' choice by the writers...brilliant.

Define "best"... something that is prolific, original, unique or maybe something that has permeated society across cultures with it's simplicity? Come on? Who hasn't chanted this? Geez... most of the people who don't even know who Patti Smith is...
lbbontat 12-26-2008
Who hasn`t chanted this? i`m gonna guess white people that don`t wear their pants hanging off their ass or the sideways hat crap.

Hey James, you also can't spell CROCK without ROCK.
I only say that because you diss rap but I actually like rock because I'm open-minded to music unlike your ignorant ass.
harold rissellat 8-07-2007
Rap music..20 second songs..bout the same amount of time the "writers" spent in english class

Rap is sh*t, not music, so there's no valid argument about an "open mind". No doubt at all.
Steveat 8-07-2007
My Dearest David,
James was just expressing an opinion. Any OPEN-MINDED person would be accepting of that. Then you go on to call him an "ignorant ass" which means you think his donkey or his anus is not knowledgeable of rap... or more than likely you mean he is ignorant or rap. Since he has come to a conclusion that he does not like rap it appears he is NOT ignorant of the form. Now I am not a rap aficionado and I'm not making fun of your ignorance or closed-mindedness but to the contrary, I believe you should have a voice. Everybody has a place and it just seems like yours is yelling "fries are done" or "would you like to super size that"? Oh, and no, you won't get to spit in my food since I don't eat fast food:)

thebowelmovement,
I have to admit to not hearing very many 20 second cRAP renditions since I can usually change the station or close the windows and turn up the volume on my own stereo in less than ten seconds. On the other hand you criticize Jason for stating that "writers in Rap aren't educated" which is not what he wrote which makes you the ignorant ass (and NO, I am not talking about your donkey). In the future if you are going to have an opinion about something be sure to educate yourself on the matter beforehand. Also remember to thank the customers and tell them to have a great day and to come back:)

I would most certainly not put this on a list of the top 25 opening lyrics ever. However I would have to strongly disagree to anyone that claims rap is not music. If you don't like it that is your opinion and I can respect that but you should also respect the talent that they have. Even the greats like Paul Mcartney and Bob Dylan have given rap its due respect and in fact Bob Dylan has said that a white rapper that is out there right now is the best lyricist he has heard since Smokey Robinson. And just to clear it up just because you weren't born when a song came out doesn't mean that you can't appreciate the song and what it has done for music. I'm 23 I study music from classical to soul to rap. And 50 cent is rap not hip-hop there is a difference. Rap is Dr. Dre Eminem 50-cent and Tupac Hip Hop is KRS-One NAS and Jurassic 5. Rock Rap Soul R&B Jazz Classical it's all music and it all has something to offer. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean its not music or it is useless. If you would like to argue my point that rap is not music then do yourself a favor and find out what the actual definition of music is and then comment.

I'll be the first to say "TURN THAT OFF!" when a rap song comes on, but I don't think it's necessarily 'crap'. Music is music. If people get the same feeling from listening to 50 Cent that I get from hearing my favorite band, then good for them! If they get the same amazing feeling from cranking up their rap tunes to 11 and dancing the night away as I get from putting on my favorite record and dancing the night away, then there shouldn't be a problem. Everyone deserves music and to enjoy the tunes of their choice. If they wanna listen to rap, then let them. Maybe some of the rap songs you've heard are all about liquor and girls, but maybe you've only heard SOME of them. After all, there are a lot of rappers out there with a bigger purpose than MTV and making some cash.
Besides. This song is/was huge. Maybe instead of naming this 'The Best Opening Lyrics' it should have been 'The Most Memorable Opening Lyrics'. Maybe there wouldn't have so many stupid comments I had to read because people can't appreciate that even if they don't agree with the lyrics or the image of hip hop, it's the same kind of freedom that we all love and appreciate. Because it's music.

Um, technically mainstream rap is not even music. The defination of music is "musical work or compositions for singing or playing an instrument". Rap falls into none of these categories. Rapping is not singing, its talking in a rymthmic patern. There are no instruments in mainstream rap either. So technically speaking Rap isn't even music.

Hey as a black guy who loves rap music i here to defend this..................................................................................... yea your right this is cRAP.
lumaat 8-07-2007
50-Cent ripped it off from Luke of 2 Live Crew, who released "It's Your Birthday" in the mid-90s. This shit predated 50 cent by almost a decade.
bradat 8-07-2007
i love a good hip hop song, but nothing by 50 cent deserves to be on any "best of" list. ever. he sounds like he has alcohol poisoning.
jmrrs09at 8-07-2007
i dont knw what the hell is wrong wit the ppl who already commented they dont knw what real music is. 50cent is the realest artist out there...when i hear the rock crap i wanna throw up and they talk about rap...50 cent the best thing that happened to the music industry so far besides lil boosie...so choke on that!!!!
