    "Go, shorty. It's your birthday"
    --50 Cent's 'In Da Club'

These words have spread way beyond da club: Uncles now shout them out at da bar mitzvah.

While your bitching rappers are laughing all the way to the bank. 50 has homes he hasn't even been to yet. 75 percent of those who purchase rap music don't look anything like the artist by the way so lets leave race out of it.

~ luma is right: in rap music often times artists make music that borrows from something that already came before, in this case Luther Campbell. I don't know if it's a case of 50 Cent stealing here, but when "Planet Rock" came out years ago Tommy Boy never asked Kraftwerk if they could use "Trans Europe Express" ... who was it that coined the phrase 'pop will eat itself'?

I have to agree with Kate. This is not about whether you like or don't like rap. If you like rap, then listen to it and if you don't like rap, then don't listen to it. However, let's stay on topic people! this discussion is about the opening line in the song. It has a good beat, and it's a catchy phrast that during hte first few months the song came i out, i must have hear more than a thousand times. Why? Because, it's a good opening lyric. It has nothing to do with my feelings about rap music or my feelings about 50. It's just a good opening line!

Ok. most of you idiotic people say rap is crap. You people are morons. SOME rap is crap, not all. Take Eminem for instance, if you listen to some of his more serious songs they are great & the lyrics are fantastic. God stop hating on rap! -_-

majority rules in this space & time. It seems that sex drugs rock & roll still sells well. I like music & some music just does not turn me on. In other words, some music I am uncomfortable with or it makes me uncomfortable or uneasy & some I comfortable with. Sometimes it's a matter of morals & sometimes it's just appreciation of art & other times it's the message or point that I listen for. Different strokes for different folks.

This is ridiculous...it has nothing to do with the genre; this has no business being here, especially right before "Hello darkness my old friend.."

rap is not crap. you may not like it but thats your own preference. I enjoy alot of different kinds of music. listen to a good 90's rap song by nas or 2pac, you may not like it, but it's far from crap. it's abrasive and hard honest poetry to beats that flow. With people, REAL artist expressing themselves. Real rap is serious and has a message. But every once and a while,(and now more frequently) someone will come out with a club song that everyone loves to dance to; sometimes they're songs that dont make any sense at all. people are just having fun when they're listening to them. These are different TYPES of rap music and you shouldn't judge an entire catagory of MUSIC off of 'In da club', 'lookin boy', 'in my white T' or any other song that has no real message.

So you say this isn't "music" and it doesn't "qualify" as music?

    Definitions of music:

    1. an artistic form of auditory communication incorporating instrumental or vocal tones in a structured and continuous manner.

Auditory communication of vocal tones? Rap is vocal, if it wasn't you'd hear no voices. Also I have heard several Rap songs with piano in it.

How about the song by Cam'Ron (although I will admit he's a horrible rapper and it was a bad song) What the World Means To You? Guess what, it's got the guitar and the beat from The Police - Roxanne.... DID THAT JUST HAPPEN?! Why yes, yes it did.

Rap is also structured and flows at a rhythmic beat. Hence why rap is pretty much poetry with music added to it. You can't spell CRAP without RAP and you can't spell CROCK without ROCK and you can't spell PLOP without POP and blah blah blahbiddy blah.

If you don't like Rap, good for you. Move on, call it a day, and listen to some AC/DC - Back In Black (good song) and just STFU.

People will like Rap, People will like Rock, and OMFG even people will like COUNTRY!! (Dear God, NO!!)

    Deal with it.

Define "best"... something that is prolific, original, unique or maybe something that has permeated society across cultures with it's simplicity? Come on? Who hasn't chanted this? Geez... most of the people who don't even know who Patti Smith is...

Hey James, you also can't spell CROCK without ROCK.

I only say that because you diss rap but I actually like rock because I'm open-minded to music unlike your ignorant ass.
