Best Opening Lyrics: No. 25
- Posted by Spinner
As any barroom Lothario will tell you, without a good opening line you've diminished your chances of hooking up. The lyricists who composed these 25 song starters have pulled out all the stops to get your attention -- and though these may not be the best lyrics of all time, they are the ones that make the best first impression.

--Human League's 'Don't You Want Me'
Thanks to lyrics that crack like silver-screen dialogue, the New Wave adaptation of 'A Star Is Born' is a classic in its own right.
Listen to the line!

I "borrowed " the tune of American Pie and made up a somg as a tribute to Sam Kinison. I called it "the day the laughter died."
" So Bye bye Mr Cocain Guy ,drove his chevy into a semi but the driver was high, them good old boyz were drinking whiskey & rye singing this'll be the the day the laughter died. I met a girl that sang the blues and she squatted & wet her shoes,
then she turned & ran away. I went down to the sacred store where I heard the music years b4 but the man there said the music wouldn't play & in the streets the lovers cried & the poets deamed but not a word was spoken, their jawbones all were broken . And the 3 men I admired most, Larry,Moe & Curly Joe.. They said man,we gotta go. The day the laughter died.( repeat chorus)
Freddie Mercury had the gift... Gone too soon, but the memories and music he left, will live on for eternity...

decline in music and lyrics the US has fallen to.
There is no more melodic music with lyrics of
substance being offered to the public. Real
artistry and craftsmanship do no exist.
Songs of today are for the melodically
handicapped and lyrically deprived. The hit
songs of today are sung by 8-12 year old kids
with no concept of what good is, because they
are not exposed to anything except radio
stations that I set my alarm clock to so I have to
get up to turn off the music coming from radio
station KNOISE.
Who am I to be an authority? Winner of an
award from BMI for the great achievement of one
of my songs. Writer of three produced musicals
Presently asked to submit one of my latest
musicals to ASCAP/Dreamworks And presently
invited to submit a musical to the Stephen
Schwartz's workshop in NY. (Writer Of Wicked).
There used to to be love and romance in songs.
Today, there is none I can find. There are no
serious love songs being recorded.
Here is an example of a serious lyric which I
wrote for my wife, which is considered old
fashioned and out of touch in today's song
market.
"When the spring has gone my love
and when summer disappears
I'll still be loving you my love
in the autumn years.
When the leaves are brown my love,
we won't count our souvenirs,
We'll have a love that's evergreen in the
autumn years.
While we are young we'll share a dream,
a dream come true.
my love for you will keep our dream forever
new.
And when the tender years have gone
and the white of winter nears,
We'll still be sharing April Love,
in the autumn years.
Those who can read the above and say that
it is old fashioned and out of touch, are among
those whose values have been distorted by
todays culture in America.
In my new Musical
"WHERE THE HECK'S THE PLOT"
I have written a song entitled:
"What Happened To The Writers"?
It ends:
What happened to the writers
who wrote with class and style?
There hasn't been a song like theirs in such
a long long while.
The songs they wrote brought so much joy,
we only hope and pray,
The writers of tomorrow
are better than today...
