Best Opening Lyrics: No. 4

"Well, she was just seventeen -- you know what I mean"
--The Beatles' 'I Saw Her Standing There'

And with that, screaming girls across the globe had hope.

THIS SONG? Of all the Beatles lyrics in all the Beatles songs, you pick this one? There are many others that are much more meaningful to the times and actually stuck in your head. Songs and lyrics that you can remember exactly where you were; exactly what you were doing; and exactly who you were with. Songs that take you back to times that meant something. Who is on the Spinner Staff and is someone with some lyrical knowledge and sense close enough to smack the crap of of this so called musical staff?

You moron! I was four years old when I first heard this song. It is THE first distinct memory of my life. My sister first played it for me on her portable record player and I started dancing and smiling and laughing. Remember, it's all about opening lines NOT complete lyrics and songs. We're talking 1964 and the opening line is all about the need to bang a 17 year old. Enough said.

Me...LMAO! That's the funniest comment I've seen on this list so far. Nicely stated. Simple and to the point.

Haha, was rather a smartallic comment, but somewhat funny. But yes, if one had to declare there to be a band that started it all (well, almost) it would definitely have to be the Beatles.

I have to agree with PAge, No doubt the Beatles should be on this list, but seems like they take a great artist(s) and just throw a dart at a board of songs.

Definitely could've picked a better line. Maybe "Let it Be," "A Day in the Life," "Rain," "Tommorow Never Knows," the list goes on and on...

I always liked the opening line to "Across the Universe" -- "Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup"...

For me, it would be..."There's nothing that you can do that can't be done"

It's so hard to pick just one for the beatles, but "norweigian wood" is pretty stellar.

"I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me."

Love this song, but this wouldn't be the first Beatles song I'd pick for this category. I'd pick Let it Be, All You need is Love, Rain, Across the Universe...
The Beatles rock!
