20 Bitter Band Breakups: Blondie
- Posted by Spinner

When a gorgeous blonde fronts a band called "Blondie," she's going to get some attention. In fact, frontwoman Debbie Harry garnered so much more attention than her bandmates that the tension led to the group's downfall. In 1982, Harry and then-partner and guitarist Chris Stein folded the band during Stein's battle with a rare disorder. At the 2006 Rock Hall induction, Harry snubbed ex-bandmates Nigel Harrison and Frank Infante's request to join her and Stein onstage.

From talking to people who were there, and in the band, the former members didnt ask to play the set in advance of the show, or show up at the rehearsal to make the request. They put Debbie on the spot and it made it look bad, she tried to defuse the situation, but it didnt come out well.
Theres a lot more to this story than just what happened that night, as mentioned in a prior story.
Debbie Harry rules !

There's a long and twisted history that came before the Hall of Fame situation...and as far as has-beens, check out the Guiness Book of World Records. You might be surprised that Harry entered the Guinness World Book of Records in 1999 as the "Oldest Female Singer to Reach No. 1 in the UK Chart" when Blondie went to number one with "Maria" on February 13, 1999 at the age of 53 years and 227 days. Not many performers from that scene have even tried to sustain a career for over thirty years.
Oh, but you're probably too busy listening to Fergie or whatever pop-nonsense you are told is good. Whatever.
she wrote "Rip Her To Shreds" about her then rival on the 70s punk scene, Cherry Vanilla, a much greater, more entertaining front woman and an early influence on Madonna at the NY nightspot called Max's Kansas City...

Frank
