20 Bitter Band Breakups: Eagles
- Posted by Spinner

Original members Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon departed in the mid-'70s. In 1980, Glenn Frey and Don Felder came to blows backstage during a concert; Frey and Don Henley mixed the swan-song LP 'Eagles Live' from opposite coasts; by the end of the year they were no more. Henley declared the group will reunite "when hell freezes over." (The band's live album of its 1994 reunion tour is titled 'Hell Freezes Over.')

September 22 2009 at 10:12 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replytony lighten up A-hole, you obviously dont know crap, because i saw an interview with don henley back in the 90's not too long after glenn freys daughter was born (henley mentioned he thought the child was about a year and half old, but had not seen the baby, said he THOUGHT glenn had a girl, ya they were obviously not close at the time.) And he talked about the benefit concert in the fall of 1980, how felder and frey were singing "the best of my love," all the while telling each other how they were going to kick each others a**s back stage while the microphones were down. this went on all night, after the concert was over they came to blows, and how he knew the band was over....he also said they all got into a fight, not JUST felder and frey. So let me think about this tony, who would know more, YOU or DON HENLEY himself.
Ya, i think i will believe what i heard out of mr. henleys own mouth, and not some idiots BS on the internet.

August 17 2007 at 4:24 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI posted this previously and I'm going to post it again because you have not corrected you erroneous posting. FACT: Glenn Frey and Don Felder never "came to blows onstage" or offstage. I have worked for the Eagles organization for 33 years. I was there when they broke up and I know what happened and what didn't happen. You are printing mythology. I suggest that you correct or delete the misinformation about physical violence. Otherwise, I will have no choice but to point out Spinner.com's erroneous and possibly defamatory posting to the Eagles' attorneys.

August 14 2007 at 2:47 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'm sorry Shannon. I was wrong. Here's the story. In 1994, the Eagles (including Felder) regrouped for a concert aired on MTV, which resulted in the new album Hell Freezes Over. Felder continued as a member of the Eagles through their 1999-2000 New Year's concerts. On February 6, 2001, Don Felder was fired from the Eagles. Felder responded by filing two lawsuits against "Eagles, Ltd., a California corporation; Don Henley, an individual; Glenn Frey, an individual; and Does 1-50", alleging wrongful termination, breach of implied-in-fact contract, and breach of fiduciary duty, reportedly seeking $50,000,000 in damages. In his latter complaint, Felder alleged that from the 1994 Hell Freezes Over tour onward, Henley and Frey had "...insisted that they each receive a higher percentage of the band's profits...", whereas the money had previously been split in five equal portions. Felder also accused them of coercing him into signing an agreement under which Henley and Frey would receive three times as much of the Selected Works: 1972-1999 proceeds as would Felder. This box set, released in November 2000 sold approximately 267,000 copies at about $60 apiece. On behalf of his clients Henley and Frey, attorney Daniel M. Petrocelli stated:
"[Henley and Frey] felt, creatively chemistry-wise and performance-wise that he should no longer be part of the band.... They removed him, and they had every legal right to do so. This has been happening with rock 'n' roll bands since day one. Henley and Frey then counter-sued Felder for breach of contract, alleging that Felder had written and attempted to sell the rights to a "tell-all" book. No such book has yet been published; however, Hyperion Books has announced the forthcoming release (scheduled for October 2007) of a memoir by Felder, to be entitled Heaven and Hell. On January 23, 2002, the Los Angeles County Court consolidated the two complaints. Judge Mel Red Recana presides. Recana is also the author of the 1997 paperback How to Try Your Own Case in Court-And Win! (ISBN 1-880090-31-7). On May 8, 2007 the case was dismissed after being settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.
Don Felder was never a member of the Eagles Shannon.
August 13 2007 at 11:45 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyDoes anyone know why Don Felder was fired from The Eagles 3 or 4 years ago?
