20 Bitter Band Breakups: Smashing Pumpkins

    Smashing Pumpkins

Frontman Billy Corgan (left) announced the band's 2000 breakup on the radio. They signed off with a 4-hour concert in their Chicago hometown, without original bassist D'arcy Wretzky, who left in 1999. Corgan's bitterness reared its head after the disappointing debut of his new band Zwan. On his blog, Corgan called Wretzky a "mean-spirited drug addict" and blamed guitarist James Iha for the breakup. The current "reunion" features only one other original member -- drummer Jimmy Chamberlin -- whom Corgan once fired in 1996.

Billy Corgan's music was so great!I hope he turns it around. Until then I am listening to ASHES diVIDE's new music. The album " Keep Telling Myself It's Alright" will be released this Tuesday, April 8th.

How could you forget one of the great pioneering duos - the Everly Brothers, whose bitter breakup took place in front of a audience in California!

I used to look up to Billy Corgan, but like Prince, he's gone wacko, what with the "purity" of the music and all. He claims everyone else sells out. I give a lot more credit to Pearl Jam for trying to tour without using ticketmaster. That says a whole lot more. I'm sure James and D'arcy are better off without that depressive snob.

I saw Debbie at the Augora in Cleveland, Ohio with friends Donna, Jim and John. Debbie was hanging on the telephone back in those days.
She was fantastic. She flipped her show into the audience. We were front and center and my friend Jim caught the shoe. Debbie made him give it back.
Debbie is still cool even after all these years.

Nice list but how you could hot include The Ramones? One of the most
IMPORTANT bands in rock history, singer Joey Ramone and guitarist Johnny
Ramone did not talk to each other for six years, even though they were stil performing together and riding in the same van to gigs. The band breaking up was obviously no surprise.

Madamn Debbie sang at KC. Sandstone/Verizon. Amp.and she was totally great! However, where was the band? I respect any new or seasoned artist that does the road. So, let the music rock on for the doers and forget the slackers!!
