20 Bitter Band Breakups: The Clash
- Posted by Spinner

The band's first fissure occurred when drummer Topper Headon got the boot in 1982 for heroin addiction. Mick Jones feuded with Joe Strummer (left), and after Jones was sacked in 1983, he started Big Audio Dynamite. Strummer, with scant participation from bassist Paul Simonon, released the band's final album, the weak 'Cut the Crap' to dismal reviews. Strummer battled manager Bernie Rhodes in a power struggle that lead to Strummer finally bringing the Clash to a close in 1985.

sorry, but all those people with negative comments, The Clash were the best band rock ever had and even today songwriters cant put across what the clash had to say, 1 bad album and people think they were washed up, joe started his own band in the mescaleros, listen to their music if you think joe didn`t have it anymore joe was and always will be the best rock star there has ever lived, no one comes close

Strummer admitted to Mick that he had made a bad mistake 5 years after parting ways. At that point Mick was well into a successful BAD career and rejected the offer.
I don't think this really constitutes a bitter breakup, do you?
Great Band that had a lead singer who was way too full of himself. I saw the Jones-less Clash in concert and, they could competently play, between Strummer's political enlightenment. sometimes you have to accept what you are
