Ray Davies' first attempt, in 1973, to announce the band's breakup fails – the microphone isn't on. Brother Dave eventually makes Ray choose: him or drummer Mick Avory, Ray's best friend in the band. Though blood was thicker than water in that instance, it couldn't last: The constantly bickering Davies brothers last performed together in 1996.

I always liked the kinks , highly unestimated band,never got the credit they deserved . Dave was a good guitar player , and also never got credit when the critics listed guitar gods . The band just went in the wrong direction during periods of their 30 some year career, that kept them out of the spotlight like the stones or the Who . I seen several shows of the kinks and they could kick ass God Save The Kinks !!
